Boys Brigade Company have become OWLS
Members of 3rd Halifax (Luddenden Foot) Boys Brigade Company have become OWLS (Observers of waterways lengths) by becoming the first youth organisation to adopt a length of towpath along the Rochdale Canal in Calderdale, between Luddenden Foot and Brierley.
Mrs Heather Hartwell, officer said ‘ The boys will have the opportunity to monitor wildlife, plants and activity along this stretch of the canal and provide information to Calderdale staff and the Canal and River Trust regarding the condition of the canal and the towpath’.
She also said that the boys are looking forward to helping to monitor the wildlife that uses the canal and the adjacent surroundings. We hope it will encourage the boys to take a greater interest in their environment’.
